NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL 2020 CANCELLATION

We had been hopeful that Notting Hill Carnival 2020 (NHC 2020) would go ahead as planned and that we would all be able to participate in a celebration of life and freedom, an event that would uplift the spirits following so much uncertainty and suffering.

However despite our optimism, we were acutely aware that the health and well-being of our masqueraders, all carnival-goers and the wider community would always be the top priority and of paramount importance.

As promised, we have been continuously monitoring the situation relating to NHC 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping you up to date with the latest developments.

With great sadness, on 7th May 2020 we received an update from the event organisers, Notting Hill Carnival Ltd that NHC 2020 had been cancelled. Please read the official statement in full below…

Official statement on behalf of the board of Notting Hill Carnival Ltd.

“Like all events around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that Notting Hill Carnival has faced many challenges this year. After lengthy consultations with our strategic partners and our Advisory Council, the Board has taken the decision that this year’s Carnival will not take place on the streets of Notting Hill as it has done for over 50 years. This will also mean that Panorama, the annual steelband competition, will not take place.

Notting Hill Carnival was founded to bring people together during trying times, and we intend to continue that legacy. We are working towards an alternate NHC 2020 that we hope will bring the Carnival spirit to people from the safety of their homes, and make them feel connected and engaged.

This has not been an easy decision to make, but the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and the way in which it has unfolded means that this is the only safe option.  Everyone’s health has to come first. 

We also have no wish to place extra strain on our colleagues at St John Ambulance and the NHS. We, of course, work very closely with them for Carnival and want to take this opportunity to express our utmost respect, admiration and gratitude for their work.

We are still at the early stages of planning for Notting Hill Carnival 2020 in its temporary form. We will share more information on how it will take shape soon. We will now be working closely with our partners, the Carnival community and others to deliver a celebration of Carnival culture and arts for the whole nation over the August bank holiday weekend.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the streets of Notting Hill in 2021.”

 

Now we will have to wait until 2021 before we can reunite with our feting family.

As per our published contingency plans, the theme “Africa – The Journey” will be postponed until Notting Hill Carnival 2021.

All orders and all payments will be automatically rolled over to 2021 so there is no need to contact us unless you wish to enquire about other options available in our contingencies.

If you had previously opted out of participating in NHC 2020 and crediting your payments to 2021 then your order and payments will be automatically reinstated, guaranteeing your chosen Maasai costume for NHC 2021.

There is a new deadline in place for full payment of remaining balances and also incentives available for payment of balances by the original deadline.

Is there are a minimum age ?

Yes. All participants must be aged 18+ and photo ID will be required.

How do I make further costume payments ?

After you have paid your deposit, you can pay the remaining balance via the further payments page in our shop.

Maasai Further Payments

When is my payment deadline ?

All costumes must be fully paid no later than 1st July 2020.

This deadline must be adhered to, deposits are non-refundable and any costumes not fully paid by this date will be resold without further notice.

Can I change my order ?

We will accept amendments to sizes only and any changes must be submitted no later than 31st March 2020.

After this date it will not be possible to make any further modifications to your order.

Can I cancel my order ?​

You can cancel your order at any time, although your deposit is non-refundable.

If you have paid more than your deposit and add-ons then you will be refunded the further payments, only if cancelled before 31st March 2020.

After this time absolutely no refunds will be issued.

Can I sell my costume to another masquerader ?

Yes. Costumes can be sold on to another masquerader but only under the following conditions.

All sizes and options on the original order will be transferred and cannot be changed or amended, the costume must be sold as seen.

You must send an email to info@socaholic.com forwarding to us your order confirmation and providing the name and contact details of the person that has purchased the costume.

We will then contact you and the purchaser of the costume to confirm and complete the transfer of the order.

When do I collect my costume ?

The costume distribution schedule will be emailed to all masqueraders and published across our social media channels and website.

After the final distribution date, any uncollected costumes will be resold without further notice.

At this time deposits and all further payments are non-refundable.

How do I collect my costume ?

Your costume will be collected from the UCOM Carnival Mas Camp, located at 13a Heybridge Way, London E10 7NQ.

Please ensure that your order has been paid for in full before attending distribution as otherwise you will not be able to collect your package.

Make sure that you have received your Paid In Full Confirmation from us by 15th August 2020. If you do not have this then please contact us immediately. You will not be able to collect your costume without this.

Your costume can be collected on your designated day or any distribution day thereafter, however priority will be given to those collecting on their assigned days. Please try to collect on you assigned day to ease congestion and wait times.

Please have your original, valid Photo ID and Paid In Full Confirmation ready when get to the front of the queue as this will help to speed up the process. You will not be able to collect your package without an original, valid form of photo identification.

Without any of the above documentation, we will not be able to release your costume.

Can someone else collect my costume for me ?

Costume packages must be collected by the person named in the order or by a confirmed designated representative only.

If your costume is being collected on your behalf by a confirmed designated representative then they will be required to present the following:

  • A signed letter from you stating that the designated person may collect your costume, this must be a paper document.
  • A copy of your Paid In Full Confirmation, this can be a paper or digital document.
  • A copy of your valid photo ID, this can be a paper or digital document.

Without any of the above documentation, we will not be able to release your costume.

Please read our terms of purchase carefully before registering your interest with Socaholic. By registering with Socaholic you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. If you do not accept these terms and conditions then you may not participate at Notting Hill Carnival with Socaholic. In these terms “we”, “us”, “our” or Socaholic and “you” and “your” refers to you as a participant at Notting Hill Carnival with Socaholic. We may modify these terms, for any reason at any time, by posting a new version on our website; these changes do not affect rights and obligations that arose prior to such changes. Your continued use of our website or any of our goods or services following the posting of modified terms will be subject to the terms in effect at the time of your use. Please review these terms periodically for changes. If you object to any provision of these terms or any subsequent modifications to these terms or become dissatisfied with our website, goods or services in any way, your only recourse is to immediately terminate use of our website, goods or services.
