Playlist 42 – St Lucia Independence Day Celebration 2021 was a collaboration between the St Lucia Independence Committee and Verve.
Officially endorsed as the “Prime Minister’s Playlist 42”, the nation’s leader Allen Chastanet spoke proudly about the event on social media. He wrote “We celebrate St Lucia Independence with our very own, home grown talent! Both undiscovered and our well established artistes. A musical journey with some of our favourite genres but most importantly, authentic Saint Lucian vibes and energy.”
He went on to say that the project involved almost 100 local creatives including musicians, dancers, videographers and photographers.
The theme given to this year’s celebration was “A Resilient Nation. We Can, We Will”. Co-organisers of the event, Verve felt that it was timely and critical at this juncture, with the entertainment industry having been tested and pushed to its limits over the past year.
Verve expressed what the theme meant to them via an Instagram post. “Resilience – because despite the challenges faced, we have to find a way to manoeuvre and navigate through this period. We Can – because with a hopeful attitude and just enough grit we have what it takes to overcome this. We will – because in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel, collective action will bring us together and help us to accomplish more than we ever imagined.”
The show was first broadcast on the eve of Independence Day, Sunday 21 February 2021 on NTN (National Television Network) in St Lucia. It was also streamed via D’Music app and across social media.
