Notting Hill Carnival 2024

NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL 2024

Join us with our friends at UCOM Carnival as we take you on an epic journey along The Great Silk Road, a network of ancient trade routes that spanned 4,000 miles across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, connecting China in the Far East with Venice in the West.

With a significance far greater than the trading of goods, the greatest value of The Great Silk Road was the exchange of arts, religion, ideas, technology and every other element of civilization between diverse cultures.

This presentation portrays the treasures that were traded, the architecture and the cultures of The Great Silk Road.

CARNEVALE DI VENEZIA X SOCAHOLIC

Venetian explorer Marco Polo set off on his famous expedition along The Great Silk Road in 1271 and travelled to China which was then under the control of the Mongolian empire. There he stayed for 17 years in the service of Kublai Khan, returning to Venice in 1295.

Carnevale di Venezia is an annual festival held in Venice, Italy, famous throughout the world for its elaborate costumes and masks. The carnival ends on Shrove Tuesday (Martedì Grasso or Mardi Gras), which is the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

The origins of the carnival can be traced back to the Middle Ages, existing for several centuries until it was abolished in 1797. The tradition was revived in 1979 and the modern event now attracts approximately 3 million visitors annually.
